  • Ideal solution when no suitable building or tree is available to mount a bat box.
  • Enables the bat box to be placed in the optimum position.
  • Comes as standard with a 4, 5 or 6 metre metal pole or banding to fit to your own pole.
  • Choose between Roost Maternity or Large Colony Bat Box
  • Choice of a single box or two boxes back to back.

Our Pole Mounted Bat Boxes are an ideal solution when there is no suitable building or tree available on which to mount the bat box. They can also be used to ensure that box gets maximum solar gain by placing it in an unshaded spot or if you want to position the bat box on a hedgerow. The Pole Mounted Bat Boxes use our standard Roost Maternity or Large Colony Bat Boxes with the addition of fixing rails which enable them to be securely fixed to the supplied metal poles. Alternatively if you have a telegraph pole or similar already installed we can supply the boxes with rails and metal bands which allow you to fix them to poles up to 900mm circumference. We offer both our Roost Maternity Bat Box and Large Colony Bat Box as either single boxes or double boxes mounted back to back on the same pole. The back to back boxes have the advantage that the two boxes will differ in solar gain and resultant thermal regimes. Bats can then choose the box which offers the optimal conditions and are likely to vary which box they use through the year.

To securely install your Pole Mounted Bat Box usually requires around 1m of the pole to be buried below ground, however we would always advise you consult your builder or structural engineer as ground conditions vary from site to site.

For ease of installation and shipping, the pole will be dispatched separately from the bat box and bracket. Apart from erecting the pole, the only tool needed is a spanner (or a screwdriver for the metal band version) to fix the boxes onto the pole.

nature first since 1996

We aim for our boxes to provide the best accommodation for wildlife and our primary concern with all our products is that they should be designed appropriately for their target species.

Our boxes replicate as far as possible the conditions which are found in natural nest and roost sites.

designed by experts

Before we design any box we consider the requirements of the proposed inhabitants through reviews of published studies and consultation with experts in their field.

Combined with our experience of designing and manufacturing boxes and customer feedback we produce what we hope are boxes which offer the best accommodation for wildlife.

During the development of our products we are grateful to have received input of various kinds from many sources including, amongst others, the RSPB, the Barn Owl Trust, the University of Warwick, ZSL London Zoo, Staffordshire University, the Bat Conservation Trust, Aston University, the People's Trust for Endangered Species, Coventry University and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

made in britain

We started making nest boxes in 1996 based in a shed in Herefordshire. Since then, we’ve grown in size to become one of the largest producers of roost, nest, and wildlife boxes in the UK.

The Nestbox Company is run by father and sons; Peter, Tristan and Damian.

We manufacture our products in our own rural workshops, and combine modern production technology, with traditional hand finishing.
