  • Choice of internal roost chamber for crevice or cavity roosting bats.
  • Choice of brick, green or black coloured front panels.

The Integrated Eco Bat Box is designed to be built into buildings. The built-in bat box is equally well suited to brick walls, timber cladding, random stone or external insulation where it can provide a permanent roost space for bats.

The box consists of an external shell of UV stabilised recycled plastic to provide sealed, long lasting weather protection whilst internally it features a wooden box made from FSC Certified orientated strand board (OSB) providing a roost chamber for the bats. In the UK, different bat species have different roost requirements, so to accommodate as wide a range of bats as possible, the box is available in two variants, crevice and cavity. Externally the two variants are identical but differ internally. The crevice box features two internal crevices 22mm wide, ideal for common pipistrelle and soprano pipistrelle bats. The cavity box is ideal for cavity roosting bats with a single internal cavity 60mm wide with rough walls and roof for bats to hang from.

The box requires no maintenance as it is designed with angled baffles which mean droppings simply fall out of the entrance slot. The box is available with either brick, green or black coloured front panels to fit tastefully into your building.

We suggest these built in bat boxes should be positioned as high as possible in a sheltered sunny place. Ideally, several boxes should be put up facing in different directions to provide a range of conditions. Bats need time to find and explore new homes, and it may be several years before boxes have residents – be patient! Droppings on the landing area and chittering noises from inside on warm afternoons and evenings are signs of occupation.

nature first since 1996

We aim for our boxes to provide the best accommodation for wildlife and our primary concern with all our products is that they should be designed appropriately for their target species.

Our boxes replicate as far as possible the conditions which are found in natural nest and roost sites.

designed by experts

Before we design any box we consider the requirements of the proposed inhabitants through reviews of published studies and consultation with experts in their field.

Combined with our experience of designing and manufacturing boxes and customer feedback we produce what we hope are boxes which offer the best accommodation for wildlife.

During the development of our products we are grateful to have received input of various kinds from many sources including, amongst others, the RSPB, the Barn Owl Trust, the University of Warwick, ZSL London Zoo, Staffordshire University, the Bat Conservation Trust, Aston University, the People's Trust for Endangered Species, Coventry University and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

We started making nest boxes in 1996 based in a shed in Herefordshire. Since then, we’ve grown in size to become one of the largest producers of roost, nest, and wildlife boxes in the UK.

The Nestbox Company is run by father and sons; Peter, Tristan and Damian.

We manufacture our products in our own rural workshops, and combine modern production technology, with traditional hand finishing.
