Dormouse Nest Box
Dormouse Nest Box
- The Dormouse Nest Box is ideal for monitoring dormouse populations and providing a warm and dry nesting space.
- Removable lid for easy monitoring and cleaning.
- Constructed from FSC certified plywood panels.
- The box is left untreated as Dormice are especially sensitive to wood preservative.
The hazel dormouse has declined across Europe and is subject to concerted conservation effort in the UK to reverse the decline. Dormouse nest boxes are an important conservation tool as they can boost local dormouse population density and are used in survey monitoring, habitat enhancement and re-introduction schemes.
Carefully created to provide a safe dormouse nest, the nesting box comes with convenient access for inspection and cleaning, through its completely removable roof. A screw is conveniently situated on the front of the nest box to assist fastening by wire round the tree. The panels for this box are precision cut from FSC Certified exterior grade plywood.
The dormouse nesting box is best positioned about 1.5m above the ground attached to a small tree trunk or other suitable support. The entrance hole should be facing towards the tree as this reduces the chances that birds use the box.

In partnership with The Nestbox Company
A family-run business, supporting UK wildlife since 1996.
nature first since 1996
We aim for our boxes to provide the best accommodation for wildlife and our primary concern with all our products is that they should be designed appropriately for their target species.
Our boxes replicate as far as possible the conditions which are found in natural nest and roost sites.
designed by experts
Before we design any box we consider the requirements of the proposed inhabitants through reviews of published studies and consultation with experts in their field.
Combined with our experience of designing and manufacturing boxes and customer feedback we produce what we hope are boxes which offer the best accommodation for wildlife.
During the development of our products we are grateful to have received input of various kinds from many sources including, amongst others, the RSPB, the Barn Owl Trust, the University of Warwick, ZSL London Zoo, Staffordshire University, the Bat Conservation Trust, Aston University, the People's Trust for Endangered Species, Coventry University and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
made in britain
We started making nest boxes in 1996 based in a shed in Herefordshire. Since then, we’ve grown in size to become one of the largest producers of roost, nest, and wildlife boxes in the UK.
The Nestbox Company is run by father and sons; Peter, Tristan and Damian.
We manufacture our products in our own rural workshops, and combine modern production technology, with traditional hand finishing.
