Cavity Bat Box
Cavity Bat Box
- Bat box designed for British cavity roosting bats including brown long-eared bats and Myotis species.
- External surfaces black to increase heat absorption.
- Internal ceramic heat sinks to retain and stabilise box temperature.
- Grooved landing ladder continues internally.
- Precision cut FSC certified panels for dry, draught free, long-lasting box.
- Roof has internal grooves to make it easy for bats to hang and cluster.
Our Cavity Bat Box is designed for those bat species which would naturally roost in cavities and internally has a larger open space in comparison with our crevice bat boxes. This FSC Certified batbox is especially suitable for the British cavity-dwelling bats including Brown Long -Eared, Daubenton's, Natterer's, Whiskered and Brandt's.
The box has an apex roof with good "holds" on the inside, enabling the bats to easily hold on and cluster. The inside temperature of the bat box makes a big difference to the bats, so the bat house has been designed, with ceramic heat sinks and black external colouration, to warm up faster and maintain a more stable internal temperature than other boxes.
Designed taking into account our 12 years experience of bat boxes, with the benefit of customer feedback, the latest scientific thinking and advice from experts on British bats. The key features include:
- 19mm entrance slot is ideal for bats but deters birds.
- Close fitting panels and fixed roof (precision cut by computer controlled equipment) for a draught free interior and improved heat retention.
- Internal ceramic heat sink for improved temperature stability.
- Bat ladder at base of box continues inside box to ensure bats find it easy to access and move around within the box.
- Easy and safe to erect box on walls or trees - relatively light weight, with 1 keyhole mounting hole and 2 extra screw holes for secure fixing.
- Floor slides out (after removing 1 screw) for cleaning or inspection where permitted.
- External surfaces treated with water based non-toxic non-volatile wood treatment.
- Manufactured in exterior grade FSC Certified exterior grade plywood
Bat boxes can be mounted on both buildings and trees. Try to position your box as high as possible in a sheltered sunny place. Ideally, several boxes should be put up facing in different directions to provide a range of conditions. Bats need time to find and explore new homes, and it may be several years before boxes have residents – be patient! Droppings on the landing area, stains around the lower parts of the box and chittering noises from inside on warm afternoons and evenings are signs of occupation.

A family-run business, supporting UK wildlife since 1996.
nature first since 1996
We aim for our boxes to provide the best accommodation for wildlife and our primary concern with all our products is that they should be designed appropriately for their target species.
Our boxes replicate as far as possible the conditions which are found in natural nest and roost sites.
designed by experts
Before we design any box we consider the requirements of the proposed inhabitants through reviews of published studies and consultation with experts in their field.
Combined with our experience of designing and manufacturing boxes and customer feedback we produce what we hope are boxes which offer the best accommodation for wildlife.
During the development of our products we are grateful to have received input of various kinds from many sources including, amongst others, the RSPB, the Barn Owl Trust, the University of Warwick, ZSL London Zoo, Staffordshire University, the Bat Conservation Trust, Aston University, the People's Trust for Endangered Species, Coventry University and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
